We will talk today about the Ketogenic lifestyle (yeap, for us it is more than just a diet…it is a lifestyle 🙂
Keto promotes a healthy, permanent change in the way we approach food. It is not a quick solution that puts you in a yo-yo effect. It is a permanent change from within your body.
It’s about eating food rich in healthy fat and reducing the consumption of carbs and no added sugars.

The lack of carbohydrates (and added sugars) reduces the blood sugar level in your body; so less insulin will be produced. As a result, your body can access better to those stored fats and starts to burn fat for energy.

The “standard” relation between fats, proteins and carbs is:
75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbohydrate
Keto started first as a diet for epilepsy patients. Then the doctors discovered that it had positive effects among type 2 diabetes patients because of the low insulin level. It also helps to manage overweight and skin issues. We recommend you to try it and experience the results on your own.

This is what you normally eat when you want to introduce the Ketogenic lifestyle into your life:

  • Avocados
  • Butter
  • Coconut Oil
  • Cream
  • Eggs
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Fatty Fish Like Salmon, Trout, and Tuna
  • Low Carbohydrate
  • Vegetable
  • Red Meat
  • Unprocessed Seeds

The general ‘rule’ to choose the vegetables is: leafy, which grow above the ground and dark green in color like broccoli, cucumbers, and zucchini. Avoid sweet, high carbohydrate vegetables like beetroot, potatoes, and corn.

Some of the best choices for vegetables in a keto diet include:

  • Asparagus (High Vitamins, Low Carbs)
  • Broccoli (High Vitamins, Low Carbs)
  • Cauliflower (Very Low Carbs,
  • High in Vitamins K And C)
  • Green Beans (Low Carb Legumes)
  • Lettuce (High in Vitamins)
  • Spinach (Very Low Carbs)
  • Zucchini (High in Vitamin C, Low Carbs)

As said before, keto is a way of living. In future newsletters, we will talk about how does a normal ‘keto day’ looks like, how to deal with stress, what do we cook? how do we sport, how do we prepare the lunchboxes of our children… We would love to share that with you so stay tuned as there is so much fun to come.
